The business of law making in the third tier of government in Akwa Ibom State has taken a new dimension as fresh and vibrant Councilors (mostly youths) have been sworn into office to drive the completion agenda of the State through effective legislation and oversight functions.
In Ikono Local Government Area, Friday, the 11th day of December 2020 will forever remain evergreen in the history of the Area as the 7th Legislative Council was inaugurated and legislative business kick-started in earnest at the Council’s Legislative Chamber, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.
The swearing-in ceremony was performed by the Clerk of the House, after receiving a written proclamation from the Executive Chairman of Ikono, Hon. Nyakno Okoibu, as required by law. The event was swiftly followed by an election to choose the Leader of the house which saw Hon. Prince Nsikak Ntok emerging the Leader of the 7th Legislative Council in Ikono LGA and Hon. Isaac Utibe as the Deputy Leader.
After being sworn in as the Councillor, Hon. Idorenyin Ubokudom, in her magnanimity and appreciation to God, treated the people of Ediene Ward 11 to a sumptuous meal in her home town Usuk Ibianang, amidst great dances and jubilations. Joy knew no bound as her family members, friends and constituents sang and danced in appreciation to God while praying the God of Heaven to grant her wisdom to excel greatly in her new office.
Hon. Ubokudom, in a media chat reiterated her commitment to effective representation promising that, with God on her side, she will represent the people of Ediene Ward 11 and by extension Ikono LGA effectively and efficiently while calling for support from everyone in other to achieve the task before her.
Recall that Hon. Idorenyin Ubokudom was elected as the Councillor representing Ediene Ward 11 under the platform of PDP on the 31st October 2020 Local Government Council election in Akwa Ibom State.
